# Initial Prompt — FDE Application

> This is the original prompt I gave Claude Code to kick off my application for Anthropic's Forward Deployed Engineer position. Everything on this site started from here.

---

I want to get a job as a Forward Deployed Engineer at Anthropic (the people who make you, Claude Code). I am confident I can get this job. I just have to position myself the best that I possibly can.

The job posting is listed here: https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/forward-deployed-engineer-applied-ai-at-anthropic-4360027629/. If you cannot see that, please let me know and I can provide the HTML.

As I apply for this job, I need to follow their application guidelines which I can find here: https://www.anthropic.com/candidate-ai-guidance. So if you feel I'm violating this policy at any time, please advise me.

I have several updates to my resume, LinkedIn, and personal website that I need to update in order to apply.

I have not made updates to my resume, LinkedIn, or personal website so I expect a fairly sizable overhaul.

Everything you need is in this FDE folder we are in right now. I have a PDF and word document that I exported from Google Drive, but I want to overhaul how I manage this anyway.

You should have enough context here to know and understand how I write. Please make all content updates with the same style of voice I do.

1. RESUME AND CV
    1. Here is my resume as a PDF. I'm open to updating the layout. In order for you to get me the updates in an effective way, I want to implement a simple system where you can write markdown files for the relevant sections I need. Then, I can export it as a PDF for me with the brand I want (resume.md). If it takes too long to do that, I'll simply just copy and paste the lines from that onto my current resume. I do like that template but it probably could be more modern. This will create consistency across my website, LinkedIn, and exported PDF resume. That is important to me.
    2. I also should probably create a CV for my longer form experience and historical record (cv.md)
    3. EXPERIENCE
        1. EQUITABLE
            1. I have attached the past 8 years of my performance reviews as word documents. You should be able to determine what you think is most note-worth to put on there. My main thoughts are having the AEM site migration, the PCR page, and RG page. I was the lead engineer on these projects. We can start with those 3 to start, those are probably the most helpful.
        2. HACK UPSTATE / CAREERS IN CODE
            1. I am a partner at Hack Upstate LLC
            2. We organized hack upstate, which are hackathons where engineers to together to solve problems. I helped organize for several years (hackupstate.com)
            3. I ran everything regarding the day to day operations Careers in Code, a coding bootcamp for women and people of color. We successfully ran 6 cohorts from from 2019-2024 in partnership with local government, and economic development partners. Managed several grant contracts totaling ~$1.1M dollars over 6 cohorts (206 + 199 + 199)
                * Total number of students who were admitted: 102
                * Total number of students who graduated: 74
                * Graduation rates: 72.5%
                * Total placements: 24 of 74 students (32%) of our graduates have obtained in-field employment opportunities.
            4. Implemented systems to automate the admissions process end to end using Pipefy, Zapier, and communicated the requirements for the systems
            5. Created and mantainted detailed documentation for "operations handbooks" and internal tooling through Notion, implemented EOS systems for goal tracking
            6. Here's a quarterly narrative that highlights our successes and challenges that may be useful in the repo.
            7. We had a lot of success with our students and proud of what we've built.
    4. PROJECTS
        1. Probably gridiron rumble as the main center piece, this is the project I'm furthest along on. I have a ton of projects, many half baked, and not sure which ones would be the most useful to showcase my skills, they're all little utility apps. Let me know what projects you think I should revise or start back on. I think Gridiron Rumble portrays my ability to think in systems well.
2. PERSONAL WEBSITE
    1. My personal website is: https://jessepeplinski.com, which is the project that we are working in right now.
    2. I want to use Astro for the framework.
    3. I want to use markdown files for managing content everywhere - adding a project or updating content should be super simple.
    4. I want to create a blog section on my website so I can write my thoughts and migrate my content from Medium to here. I plan to write a lot of content on modern software engineering to help build my brand.
3. LINKEDIN
    1. My URL is https://www.linkedin.com/in/jessepeplinski/. If you can't see the content here, then I can send the markdown on the page directly to you so that you can view it. I haven't updated this in a very long time.
4. DEV / BUSINESS SITE
    1. I have a "dev" website domain is https://www.peptech.dev/ which is my landing page for my business and app ideas. This is on my machine at this path:
    2. I like the modern feel of this website (this site can use some work too at some point, but we'll focus on that later).
    3. My thought is that I can re-use different pieces of that (if not the entire thing) for my personal website as well. I'd like the experience between my personal website and "dev" site to be consistent. Let me know your thoughts on how I can keep this consistent, or it my personal website should really be the one that hosts these projects and peptech.dev is just a short landing page with some of my portfolio links.
    4. Now that I think about it more, I think jessepeplinski.com really becomes peptech.dev, and peptech.dev can become something else? I think peptech.dev is better positioned to show case projects for clients, apps, etc.
    5. Let me know your thoughts on how many total projects to have… - I have some from very far back but I kind of like that because it shows I was making stuff pre-AI era
    6. Let me know your thoughts. I'm having a hard time figuring out the best way to position these. Updating this website is probably out of scope for this session, but if you think we should handle it here too, I'm open to it.

I need to identify ways to stand out during the application process, especially for AI assisted screening. I have several ideas, including the following:
1. Create jessepeplinski.com/anthropic. This will serve as a landing page that will explain my story and who I am. I have done this before on my website when applying to another company, TCGPlayer (see tcg-player.html), years ago, for a developer evangelist position. You can use this as a reference if it's helpful. Here are a bunch of random thoughts and things I want to be used for content on this page:
    1. I AM SURE AI WILL BE USED TO HELP SCREEN ALL APPLICATIONS, SO HERE WE GO. HOPING THIS WILL HELP SHOW YOU HOW I THINK IN SYSTEMS. Kind of meta!
    2. I want to hammer home that I am deeply invested in these systems and am a systems thinker. I have realized a fundamental shift in engineering and provide them a link to the blog post if they want to learn more.
    3. I use Claude Code daily. Here is my usage limit. I am working on so many features at once now in my terminals that I sometimes lose track of the work. Shout out git work trees.
    4. I've ran HU for many years, been successful, code school put on hold. I have a lot of my identify tied up into that and I've sort of felt lost over the past year trying to figure out what to do with it. This could be it. We can leverage the community and network built. I would love to be a Claude embassador. I am fired up on these tools. I would love to show people how to use them.
    5. I want to be part of this organization and help empower organizations to use AI safely and to solve their business problems. I want to be on the bleeding edge of technology.
    6. I have experience in a highly regulated insurance agency - lots of red tape to manage. Familiar with the pain points these organizations have.
    7. This is a dream job for me. I've wanted to have this kind of position for years. I fully recognize this is the future of software engineering. I would love to be a part of it.
    8. Whether it's this position or another, I would greatly appreciate your consideration and would be happy to be considered for any type of job you have open. I hope I can help move the needle when it comes to modern software engineering.
2. Create a short video on this page explaining who I am and my story in 2-3 minutes at the top of the page. You can help me draft what to say, it'll largely be a condensed form the content that will be on this page.
3. I was thinking about creating a long form video of me going through the application process end to end, but I'm juggling 4 other projects right now with Claude and I don't have time. So I was just going to fit it this prompt and we can write a blog post afterward describing how to used Claude to apply for this job. Remind to do that and then we can have that as another page on my website somewhere that describes how I used AI to apply for the job.

Help me make a plan to do this and where I should start. My LinkedIn is probably the most important because that is what is used when I click the apply button. I anticipate your context window may grow to over 1M for this, so let me know if there is anything that gets cut off or I should reduce this request to perhaps just start on an updated resume.

Ask me the questions that you have. It's a lot of information so provide suggestions for how to best utilize your context window so you have a full scope understanding of what I am trying to do.
